POTENCIAL USAGE VALUES OF SOME TAXONOMIC GROUPS IN LA MELBA LOCALITY, MOA, CUBA

Resumen

The biological diversity studies in mountainous areas are remarkable, however, the biodiversity usage values have received little attention. The objective of this study was, to identify the potential usage values of some taxonomic groups. During May 26 and 30, 2024, botanical and zoological explorations were carried out in the study area. The species samplings ware carried out using different methods. To learn about the usefulness of flora and fauna, local residents were interviewed and related papers were consulted. According to the results, 65 plants species with known usage values were recorded. Mollusks, amphibians, and reptiles have few species with direct consumptive use; most have indirect usage values. Of birds species were numbered 73; this group showed the greatest potential value for ecotourism. The tourism based in knowledge and sustainable use of biodiversity, is the principal option to generate products of environmental goods and services at La Melba locality.
