Dimensional control and decision making in the manufacture of parts

Manufacturing by using machining processes allows responding to the high demands of shapes, levels of dimension accuracy and surface roughness of machine elements. With respect to the manufacture of gears, there are some failures of these requirements,
associated to manufacturing technological process factors. The purpose of this work is to present how to use the detection of non-permissible deviations in different parameters of a
gear (with 38 helical teeth and a module of 3.5 mm) to get to the proposal of technical and organizational decisions in the process. The historical and logical methods were used, as well as, the scientific observation and measurement techniques. After analyzing the results, we concluded that the main problems were detected in the internal diameter deviations, the step, the radial pulsation and the tooth direction; as well as in the external diameter. The most
probable causes of these deviations were detected, and the corrective actions were proposed. To immediately put the recommendations into practice, in a gradual and
continuous way, allowed correcting the main detected problems.
