Cooperative learning is an educational approach that encourages collaboration and teamwork among students to achieve common goals; students learn to share responsibilities individually and in groups. The implementation of innovative and integrative didactic and methodological strategies is a purpose of the curricular proposal for the subject of Natural Sciences.
The objective of this research is to propose a methodological strategy to improve the teaching of Natural Sciences, with emphasis on cooperative learning, the promotion of the value of responsibility and meaningful learning of basic education students. The methodological structure is developed from a mixed approach, correlational scope and cross-sectional non-experimental design; As an empirical level method, the survey is used to identify the level of cooperative learning of students at the “Alfredo Cisnero” Educational Unit, as a starting point for developing the strategy. They highlight statistical methods of a descriptive and inferential nature for information processing. The subscales, Positive Interdependence and Individual Responsibility, prevail, so a very good level of cooperative learning is identified, especially in terms of collaboration and responsibility. The methodological strategy to improve the teaching of Natural Sciences has been validated by experts who agree on its relevance and applicability. Its application to the skill of designing representative models of the flow of energy in food chains and networks fosters collaboration and responsibility skills, essential for the comprehensive development of students.
