Abstract

This research analyzes the socioeconomic indicators managed by the Decentralized Autonomous Government (GAD) of Machala and their impact on local development during the period 2018–2023. The study uses a mixed, descriptive approach, combining document analysis, surveys of the productive sector, and statistical review. The results show significant progress in basic service coverage, economic formalization, budget execution, and commercial growth. However, structural challenges remain in security, territorial equity, labor conditions, and access to expansion opportunities. Empirical evidence confirms that the evaluated indicators are essential tools for diagnosing, monitoring, and guiding local planning, enabling the identification of gaps and the design of more effective and participatory policies. It concludes that improving these indicators is crucial for strengthening the sustainable, inclusive, and resilient development of the canton.
