Abstract

The present investigation proposes economic, socio-cultural and environmental indicators for the management of small-scale local sustainable tourism in the Municipalities of Holguín, Cuba. The study hosts a mixed focus that combines documentary analysis, surveys, unstructured interviews and non-participating observation to local actors. The results show that the selected indicators are mostly simple, based on statistical data or with a simple data processing, represented in gross figures, proportions or percentages when constituting key tools to diagnose, monitor and guide local planning, allowing to identify gaps and design more effective and participatory policies. The study concludes that the implementation of indicators is an effective tool for assessing the progress and impact of sustainable local tourism initiatives in host communities.
