This study evaluated the impact of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the teaching and learning of basic mathematical operations in fifth grade of General Basic Education in Ecuador. Using a mixed-methods design with a quasi-experimental component, an experimental group that used DeepSeek (n=17) was compared with a control group (n=18), complemented by interviews and surveys. The results showed a significantly greater improvement in the experimental group, reducing the 'insufficient' level from 41.18% to 11.76% and increasing the higher levels, while the control group had moderate progress. Students reported high motivation, and teachers pointed out structural challenges. It is concluded that AI is an effective educational resource, but its implementation requires overcoming infrastructure gaps and teacher training issues.
